Dometic ventilation systems are designed to release the heat on the back of your fridge and allow easy service and maintenance, i.e. cleaning the exhaust duct without requiring removal of the refrigerator.

A new vehicle will probably have this system installed. If retro-fitting you need to fit the ventilation grills in the outside skin of the vehicle above and below the refrigerator. The upper grill allows heated air to escape, while the lower grill admits cooler air from the outside to the rear of the refrigerator.
